Steve Koontz

President of Aero Lift

Steve has always been drawn to the building industry. As a child he would take everything apart to see how it worked. Growing up with a father who worked in the construction industry only fueled his appetite for engineering. Because of this curiosity, he always took jobs where he would be surrounded by mechanical and construction based industries.

He attended LTU, a technical college and earned a degree in Construction Management. After graduation, he accepted a job with a General Contractor.

While he enjoyed the job, he came to realize that it wasn’t quite his passion.

His father was growing his forklift business at this time and he could see that he needed help. Putting aside his awareness of the risks inherent with family businesses, he took the leap and joined his father in his fledgling equipment rental company.

For a couple of years they (along with their trusty black lab, Bandit) drove all around SE Michigan to service the used SkyTrak fleet that they had acquired. These times were challenging, yet thrilling. Jim, a life long salesman, had thrust himself into the role of a mechanic and now a teacher. Steve, relying on his curiosity, perseverance and innate mechanical ability, started to master the art of servicing and maintaining Jim’s start up fleet of SkyTraks.

He invested time; dedicating himself to first locating and then, repairing the equipment as best they could. He applied himself, learned fast and quickly became proficient at his new focus. He retains a laser like intensity overseeing their ever growing enterprise of machinery, buildings, employees and diverse investments.

In 2009, Steve, foresaw a seam of opportunity. The Mass Marketing of used SkyTrak parts. Some of these parts were hard to find; many discontinued and out of production. He significantly invented the promotion and delivery of highly desired used SkyTrak parts.

Today they offer the largest supply of used SkyTrak parts anywhere. These parts are cleaned, inspected, inventoried, discounted and, often, shipped the same day all over the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Now, he no longer turns wrenches on the fleet. Steve oversees the day to day operations of this highly focused, yet diverse enterprise.

He resides in South Lyon with his wife Alicia and their two children, Camille and Owen.
